“Marriage used to be all about wooing young targets to join an unequal partnership in which they’d wind up oppressed and exploited. Now that’s just college football.” —Jack Dickey, in Deadspin. A little reductionist on the whole “marriage used to be” thing. (All is not rosy and perfect and equal.) But a nice and snarky articulation of why college football gives me the willies.

One for the Sports Nerds

Sometimes I wonder, “How is Drew Magary different from Bill Simmons?” And then I realize: he’s not, except that he’s angrier and most of his cache is in the fact that he hates Bill Simmons.

Black & Gold Review: Today’s most inane headlines → blackandgoldreview.com

saints11:

An oddly quiet week coming out of the Saints’ camp. After scooping up more headlines than Tim Tebow - punt team specialist - we’ve had a series of horribly boring headlines that I thought I’d share with you over my lunch break. Revel in the mundanity of this list. It’s likely short lived.

- …

This should be a regular feature! Even on weeks when there’s actual news, so much sports coverage is just utterly inane. This is fantastic.

On the fall of the Times-Picayune—and why media conglomerates like Newhouse and Gannett don't friggin' get it.

bradleywarshauer:

When I was twelve, I almost burned down 5305 Wildair Drive in Gentilly in a terrifying Times-Picayune sports section and tabletop scented candle incident. The newspaper caught fire in my hands. I was so enraptured by, probably, a Peter Finney or Brian Allee-Walsh story on the Saints that I didn’t notice until my mom shouted a warning from the next room.

A while ago, the Shadowy National Corporation that owns the Times-Picayune, among many other old-line newspapers, made decisions that resulted in Brian Allee-Walsh no longer working for the newspaper. Today, the Shadowy National Corporation announced its decision to gut the Times-Picayune.

It seems I’ll never have to worry about a hypothetical kid of mine burning my future New Orleans house with a flaming copy of the Times-Picayune.

Unless.

Let’s pool together some money and buy the print section of the T-P and keep it local and make it awesome. Or maybe that’s just the dreamer in me talking…

Orioles Win 4-1 Over Red Sox!

bmoreorioles:

Tomorrow’s game will be at 12:35 as the Os try to win the rubber match game of the series against Boston.

I do love any time the Red Sox lose. ;)
